The SONY FS7
I wanted to take a short minute to share a camera we have added to our arsenal lately.
At the beginning of 2015 when I reluctantly sold my C300 and purchased the SONY FS7, I thought I had made a mistake. Moving everything from Canon to SONY changed more than I was imagining, and I wasn’t sure at first. I LOVED the C300. The C300m2 is equally as great a camera to work with….and if it had been released before the FS7 I probably would have purchased it. But alas, I really wanted and need to go 4K, as I had clients asking for this every day.
That was exactly one year ago today, that I bought the FS7, and it has been one of the best equipment purchased for me, ever. It is the absolute ideal camera. Why?
1 – It is a documentary beast!
2 – I just wrapped a new HGTV pilot with it, and the Producers could not have been more pleased. Getting out of SLOG and creating a custom look, I matched the colors to an F55 and it looks amazing. Even at MPEGHD422 codec – (which gives you 132 minutes per 64GB card – bonus). I was reluctant to shoot at 50Mbps but I was super surprised…it held up beautifully, and have found that this is where the FS7 can really shine, as a broadcast camera for docu series / reality series work.
3 – Needless to say, as a cinema camera. Words cannot describe how good this camera looks, with properly exposed SLOG3. It’s shocking, really. More on this and my new PL mount Xeen Cinema Primes, later.
