Trailers Embedded Below
"Searching for Sonny" is a new feature film written and Directed by Andrew Disney, shot by Jeffrey Waldron. They shot a teaser and full trailer with the Canon 5d Mark II, and are planning to shoot the entire film on a DSLR. After screening the trailer, and reading the reviews on this camera, I want one. Bad.
WHAT IS YOUR FILM ABOUT?: "Searching for Sonny is about three bumbling friends who go back to their high school reunion and get sucked into a small town murder mystery that seems eerily like a play from high school."
HOW DID YOU DO SOUND?: "We did dual system sound. It turned out really well. On April 15th we're releasing the full trailer, and you can check it out for yourself. We have a Panasonic HVX so that's what we recorded sound with. I would still like to try an XLR to 1/8th inch to the camera with someone on a field mixer."
HOW DID YOU DO COLOR?: "I used Apple Color. Mostly crushed the blacks, brought the shadows to a blueish hue, the highlights to a yellowish hue in the primary in. Then we went to our secondaries and tried to preserve the skin tones with a saturation curve (sometimes a hue) and then play around some more with the other colors. I got my method from this post at prolost
WHAT EQUIPMENT DID YOU USE?:
- Nikon lenses, most of the shots here are 50mm.
- Kino Gaffer Kit
- Arri Package, 1K, 650, and an inky
- Doorway dolly with two sets of 8 foot track
- One 4x4 frame with opal
- One 4x4 Black Flag
- One 3X2 Black Flack
And lastly, the trailer. Man, Youtube has really come a long way with HD. But I will let you be the judge: Below are the both the Vimeo version AND the Youtube version. For the Vimeo video, it looks incredible - only one problem, of which many Vimeo people struggle - the trailer was shot in 30p - and Vimeo converts everything to 24p. Oh well. They need to change that asap! And for the Youtube video, click the HD button to watch the trailer in full HD. Not bad.
